‘Manchester’ to be screened

MARQUETTE — Peter White Public Library invites film fans to enjoy a bring your own meal film event at 6 p.m. Thursday for a screening of “Manchester by the Sea” in the library’s community room.

When loner Lee Chandler’s brother dies of a heart attack, he finds himself responsible for the care of his teenage nephew. Starring Casey Affleck and Michelle Williams, this comedic drama is rated R.

Church preschool open house set

MARQUETTE — Redeemer Lutheran Preschool, located at 1700 W. Fair Ave., in Marquette, is hosting an Open House from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday and from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 7.

Redeemer Lutheran Preschool offers a Christian based curriculum which includes art, music, gym, literacy, snack and free play allowing for a full, stimulating educational experience. Classes are available for 3-, 4- and 5-year-olds. A child care option is offered also. Children may enter classes when they turn 3 years old and if they are potty trained.

Vintage Ski Day at Marquette Mtn.

MARQUETTE — Northern Michigan University’s Beaumier U.P. Heritage Center and the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame and Museum will co-host a Vintage Ski Day on Sunday, March 5, at Marquette Mountain. Attendees are encouraged to bring old skis and ski clothing as they “go back in time” for the event.

The event begins at noon with a vintage ski race down Cliffs Ridge. Racers will receive a handicap based on their age and the age of their equipment. A vintage costume fashion show will begin at 1 p.m. in front of the main lodge.

Vintage ski films will be shown throughout the day in the ski lodge. Ski trivia will be on monitors in the lodge and T-Bar. There will also be displays of ski equipment and memorabilia from the Snowboard Hall of Fame and Museum’s collection.

Marquette Mountain will donate $5 to the museums for each person who buys a day pass in a vintage ski outfit.
