‘The Frog Prince’ puppet show held

MARQUETTE — On Saturday, the Peter White Public Library will present “The Frog Prince” as part of its “Once Upon a Time” puppet shows series.

There will be two performances: one at 1 p.m. and another at 2 p.m. in the Community room on the lower level of the library.

Veteran performers of the Vertigo Theatre Company bring their acting talents to the library puppet stage to present this well-loved story with some unique humorous twists. The shows are appropriate for all ages, especially families with young children.

Wine, beer pairing event at NMU

MARQUETTE — Simply Superior NMU Catering and Events will partner with Gordon Food Service to host a Wine and Beer Pairing Event from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, in the Northern Michigan University Bottum University Center Great Lakes Rooms.

Attendees will travel through food sampling stations that feature wine or local beer designed to enhance the flavor profile. NMU alumnus and singer/songwriter Michael Waite will provide musical entertainment.

Simply Superior’s Certified Executive Chef Nathan Mileski and his culinary team have selected a Spanish Tapas-themed menu. It will feature smoke fingerling potato bravas with pecorino cheese amd squash empanadas with green romesco. Other featured food items include brisket sliders, grilled chicken and waffles, beer cheese gumbo, salted caramel bars and more.

The cost is $35, which includes an etched Simply Superior souvenir beer or wine glass. Registration must be completed in advance at regonline.com/winepair17.This event is open to individuals 21 and older. IDs will be checked at the door.

Free square dance session Monday

MARQUETTE — Dance Zone will offer a free introductory square dance session from 7-8 p.m. Monday.

This session will feature square dance calls appropriate for beginners. All moves will be taught. Dance Zone is at 1113 Lincoln Ave. in Marquette.

Those participating should bring clean-soled shoes to protect dancers knees and the floor. 906-236-1457 for more information.

Zyburt to speak at NARFE meeting

MARQUETTE — Marquette County Sheriff Greg Zyburt will be the guest speaker for the next meeting of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association Chapter 1900.

The group will meet at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday in Room B of the Marquette Senior Center, on the lower level of City Hall, 300 W. Baraga Ave. in Marquette. Members may enter from Spring Street, behind City Hall. Spring Street is one-way from east to west.

WinterFest Open Skate at Lakeview

MARQUETTE — Northern Michigan University’s annual WinterFest Open Skate for NMU and community members will be held from 7-10 p.m. Wednesday, at Lakeview Arena.

Skating is free. Rentals are $3, while supplies last. Concessions will be available and Double Trouble DJs will provide music.

Skaters will also have the opportunity to have their picture taken with Wildcat Willy and meet NMU athletes who will be in attendance.

Spaghetti dinner fundraiser held

MARQUETTE — A Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser organized by parents of Harvey Girl Scout Cadette Troop 5101 is from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Marquette American Legion Post 44, 700 W. Bluff St.

Spaghetti, meatballs, salad, dessert, and drink will be served for dine in or take out. Tickets are $5/student, $10/adult, or $20/family. The fundraiser will help the Cadettes attend an educational trip to New York City during July.
