Forum showcased city candidates

To the Journal editor:

On behalf of the League of Women Voters of Delta County, Marquette County Unit, we would like to extend our thanks to all those who helped make the Marquette City Commission Candidate Forum, held on July 25, a rousing success.

The feedback from the audience (a full house) and the eight city commission candidates who are running in the Aug. 7 primary for two open seats was positive, the questions from those in attendance were thoughtful and gave the candidates a chance to introduce themselves and share their views on issues of concern to the public.

The forum would not have been possible without a lot of hard work by League members, but we would especially like to recognize the behind-the-scenes cooperation and support of many others in the community: the establishments that allowed us to put up our posters; Peter White Public Library for their loan of extra chairs; the city manager and staff of city hall for allowing us to hold the forum in the city commission chambers, and their assistance with logistics and the physical arrangements; Sunny FM Radio, The Mining Journal and other media outlets for publicizing the forum. Thank you.

We look forward to partnering with The Mining Journal in the lead-up to the Nov. 6 General Election when they will once again be publishing the 2018 Voters Guide and we encourage folks to visit the League’s comprehensive voter information site — Vote411.org — for more information about candidates, issues, and ballot initiatives.
