Carjacking suspect arrested
MARQUETTE — Cassandra Lynn McKelvie, 29, of Sault Ste. Marie was arrested in Marquette on Monday for her alleged involvement in a Feb. 11 carjacking incident.
On that date, officers with the Marquette Police Department responded to a 911 call regarding a female subject who was attempting to force entry into a vehicle on the 500 block of South Front Street. The call came from one of the two juvenile female passengers in the vehicle, according to a press release from Marquette police.
When police arrived, they made contact with McKelvie, who had allegedly opened the door of a vehicle, grabbed the steering wheel and forced her way into the vehicle, while pulling the driver out.
The car’s driver managed to take her keys out of the ignition so the vehicle would not be stolen, police said.
The Marquette County Prosecutor’s Office authorized charges of carjacking, assault or assault and battery and breaking and entering — illegal entry, without owner’s permission.
The total bond for McKelvie was set at $45,000. McKelvie is currently lodged in the Marquette County Jail.
