Ice blockage causes Chocolay River flooding
HARVEY — The mouth of the Chocolay River was blocked by ice this weekend, causing minor flooding in the area of Hotel Place and Bayou Road, according to a press release from the Chocolay Township Police Department.
Police said earlier today that the water appears to have found a passage out to Lake Superior and water levels had dropped by as much as 2 feet in the area.
Authorities said no property damage has been reported as of early this morning.
If residents in area have sustained property damages, they are asked to contact Brad Johnson, supervisor of the township’s public works department, at 906-249-1448.
