Four Shillings Short to perform concert in Crystal Falls
AMASA — The duo Four Shillings Short will be featured in concert on Sunday at the Second Sunday Folk Dance. This event is located at the Fortune Lake Camp in Crystal Falls, Michigan and starts at 4 p.m. CST.
The program includes a 25-minute opening concert set by White Water, a 60-minute concert set by special musical guests, and a 90-minute dance with music by the Front Parlor Dance Band and dance caller Steve Kickert. Four Shillings Short perform traditional and original music from the Celtic lands, Medieval and Renaissance Europe, India and the Americas on over 30 World instruments including hammered and mountain dulcimer, mandolin, mandola, bouzouki, tinwhistles, recorders, Medieval and Renaissance woodwinds, Native American flutes, North Indian sitar, charango, bowed psaltery, banjo, bodhran, guitar, ukelele, doumbek, percussion, vocals and even a krumhorn. The husband/wife duo of Aodh Og O’Tuama from Cork, Ireland and Christy Martin from California, have been performing together since 1995. They tour the U.S. and Ireland performing about 150 concerts each year.
All Second Sunday Folk Dance events begin at 4 p.m. CST and end at 7 p.m. CST. Admission is $7/adult. Children 15 and under are admitted free. The remaining line-up of guest musicians for the 32nd season includes Four Shillings Short (Dec. 11 ), Bryan Bowers (Jan. 8), Small Potatoes (Feb. 12), Andy Cohen (March 12 ), and Shari Kane & Dave Steele (April 9).
The Fortune Lake Camp is located between Iron River and Crystal Falls (in Iron County, Michigan), 2 miles west of Crystal Falls on US-2. Turn south on Bible Camp Road and drive for less than a quarter mile. Turn right on Fortune Lake Camp Road and just drive a short distance.
