MARQUETTE — The city of Marquette Arts and Culture Center has announced its July LSAA Gallery exhibition: “Orkney Inspirations — Scotland” by Kathleen Mooney.

The 28 acrylic and water media paintings in this show are abstract landscapes of the islands of Orkney, Scotland. The art and archeology from the islands of north Atlantic Europe have been the artist’s principal inspiration for the last two decades, according to a release from the MACC. A special feature of this exhibit is free verse poetry that responds to the World Heritage Neolithic sites of Orkney. Mooney’s paintings are exhibited in national and international art competitions, cultural centers and museums.

The SmallWorks Gallery will feature work by Paula Kiesling. Kiesling incorporates different elements into her pieces that create a tactile, as well as visual, feature, the release said. She is influenced by mythology and a love of nature. Incorporating fiber beads, wood, stones and other exotic bits and pieces makes her art natural and inspirational.

Both exhibits will be displayed from July 1- 31 with an artist reception on from 3 to 6 p.m. July 18. The public is invited to attend and refreshments will be provided.

The MACC is in the lower level of the Peter White Public Library. For more information or questions, contact 228-0472 or email arts- culture@mqtcty.org.
