Mister McGregor’s Garden Children’s Centers: A safe, comfortable, fun learning place for kids
“Mister McGregor’s Garden Inc. is celebrating 38 years in business this summer. We opened in 1979,” said Korry Richer, who owns the business along with her husband, Mike. Korry is a third-generation child care provider with a quarter of a century of experience herself.
“This is the long awaited opening of our second location providing all the same enriched programming and staff procedures as our original location,” Korry said. “Our success can be attributed to dependable hard-working caregivers and teachers who are here because they value and appreciate children individually. Their jobs have meaning to them and they know what they do has long-range value beyond a paycheck. Our staff wants to be here!”
Many staff are educated in Early Child Development or closely related fields. Mister McGregor’s staff exceeds state standards in training with an average of 20-plus hours annually.”
The original location is at 510 McClellan Ave., while the second is at 1910 Werner St. Both locations provide infant care, toddler care, and curriculum development programs for toddlers, preschool 3’s and 4-5’s and school-age programs.
Children who go to either Mister McGregor’s location will have a well-balanced day with play-based learning and enriched activities utilizing theories of Piget, Dewey, Montessori, Erickson and others.
“Our theme-based programs encourage creativity and expression, while introducing children to basics and areas of interest, especially those things to which they may relate to such as family, school, neighborhood and community,” Korry said.
“We believe learning should be fun,” she said. “It should stimulate the mind and senses and provide children tools toward independence as well as the tools for succeeding in a group.
“At Mister McGregor’s Garden Children’s Centers, we take very seriously the rapid brain development of the young child and the emotional security children still need,” Korry said. “We see our roles as caregivers to provide security, comfort, and protection and we also understand the foundation we provide to a lifetime of learning.”
Nutritious meals and snacks are prepared on site, following the USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program. And each location has plenty of room for children to enjoy part of the day being outdoors.
“We have huge private-play parks that are fenced in and well maintained,” Korry said. “Each property has an area covering a block with combination green space, protected wooded areas, picnic areas, park equipment and bike paths. There are appropriate areas for the varying ages from infant through school-age.”
One feature offered by Mister McGregor’s exclusively is a 15-passenger bus, which the children love.
“We use it for field trips,” Korry said. “There are car seats built in for those under 3, five-point harnesses for children 3 years and older and seat belts for those over 80 pounds. And we have a chauffeured driver.”
Families will enjoy the special events at Mister McGregor’s, including Preschool to Kindergarten Graduation, ice cream socials, an annual Visit with Santa and the original Art on the Fence Family Gathering that has been part of Mister McGregor’s since the 1970s.
“We have an open door to families,” Korry said. “We believe in parent inclusion.”
