Lampinen is COO of UPWARD

ESCANABA — The UPWARD Talent Council recently announced that Cherilynn Lampinen has become chief operations officer for the Upper Peninsula workforce development agency.

As a workforce development leader in the Upper Peninsula, Lampinen brings to the position a “record of success in leading disciplined, high performance teams focused on driving economic growth and prosperity,” according to a press release from the council.

“Cherilynn Lampinen brings the perspective of a business owner, along with the experience of working in positions of increasing authority with Michigan Works! in the Upper Peninsula since 2009,” said Orrin Bailey, CEO, UPWARD Talent Council. “Over the past three years she has transformed the Michigan Works! structure and operations in the six counties in the western Upper Peninsula, increasing efficiency in serving their businesses.”

Lampinen was born and raised in Chassell, and attended Michigan Tech University where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in social sciences and earned Michigan teaching certification in social studies and mathematics. She has worked in workforce development, literacy, and adult education for the past 14 years. Lampinen’s family has been small business owners for more than 40 years.
