Presentation on addiction set

MARQUETTE — “The Cost of Addiction” is a free event open to anyone who wants to learn more about the opiate epidemic in our area.

The first session of this five part series will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Jan. 18 at Marquette Alternative High School, 1175 Erie Ave.

The event will feature an interdisciplinary community panel that will assemble to discuss what opiate addiction costs our community as a whole, the families who reside here and individuals with addictions.

Topic areas will encompass the cost of addiction from various standpoints legal, personal, familial, medical and communal. The agenda will include introductions from our panelists, various presentations and a question and answer period open to the community.

Panelists for “The Cost of Addiction” will include: Sandy Chapman, NorthCare Network; Andy Griffin, Marquette County Prosecutor’s Office; Dr. John Lehtinen, UP Health System-Marquette; Scott Ham, Marquette County Health Department; Ashley Jenema, Pathways CMH; Tim Scolander, Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team; Alicia Thatcher, R.Ph, Campus Pharmacy; and Charlie Yeager, parent and certified prevention specialist.
